Will the texts stop after tomorrow? (PHOTO: Andy Tarnoff)

Can I do anything to stop political texts?

As if there aren't enough political ads on television or left in our mailboxes, we now get the added joy of political texts spamming up our phones.

Personally, I have received myriad unwanted political texts for weeks from Tom and Nancy and Erin and Olivia, among others. Tomorrow is the election day, but can I do anything NOW to stop the texts?

According to the information on the Wisconsin Do Not Call Registry, political messages are legal as long as they are "peer to peer" – meaning they are sent one at a time and coming from a person.

However, you should be able to make them stop, peer to peer or one by one, if you send STOP back to the sender or block the number as you might any other caller. Seems tedious, but maybe it's worth a try?

I've had success with the more verbose UNSUBSCRIBE as well.
