Robin's picks: 6 days of Milwaukee live music musts

Born and raised in Milwaukee, a lover of life and and a connector of people, I'm a mother, a real estate developer, a philanthropist, a singer and more. And last, but most definitely not least, I love Milwaukee!

I often get asked – by people I know and don't know alike, out of towners and MKE locals – what is there to do here? Is there any live music tonight? What's a good place for a date? What's a good place to hang with a group of friends? You get the point...

So I've decided to share my weekly picks of cool happenings in and around our lovely city. I may repeat some "regulars," and the list by no means is comprehensive, but it will give you glimpse of some of the great things our great city has to offer for entertainment.

Saturday, July 15

It's Bastille Weekend, so Bastille Days will be a definite stop. Food, vendors, live bands and more right in Cathedral Square. Bastille runs through Sunday. Meanwhile, Garfield Days, a jazz and blues festival, kicks off at noon, and they are celebrating 20 years of vendors, food and live music. Cigarette Break is performing at the beautiful Blu for "Live at Blu" on top of The Pfister Hotel Downtown starting at 8 p.m., while Christopher's Project is at Bar 360 at Potowatomi Hotel & Casino.

Sunday, July 16

I'm always looking for brunch on Sunday, and my new fave is Dorsia. They have a great sangria, and there's a live DJ! Later in the day, Sunday night is Service Industry Night at the Jazz Estate. Now, this isn't your typical S.I.N. night, as this one includes musicians of course (meeee!). There's no cover, and DJ Nick Westfall will be spinning the grooves. Then R&B Live: Summer Fun Edition is at Mr. J's Jazz Blues and R&B Lounge. They ask that everyone wears bright summer colors, but it's not required. Tickets are $20 and a great time will be had by all.

Monday, July 17

We're back at the Jazz Estate Monday night, this time for a live Latin Jazz Session with percussionist Cecilio Negron starting at 9 p.m.

Tuesday, July 18

You can always catch me at Tuesday Tunes featuring Cigarette Break at Skybox Sports Bar. There is a different vocalist featured weekly – and this week features Chelsea Stingley! The band starts at 9 p.m. Meanwhile, Angie Swan hosts her monthly Funk Night at the Jazz Estate this Tuesday, also starting at 9 p.m. Yes, I love the Jazz Estate – what can I say?

Wednesday, July 19

If you love the blues (music, that is!), you have to stop down at Caroline's Jazz Club for a blues jam session featuring Harvey Westmoreland and the Kneedeep Band! No cover and live music from 8:30 until 12:30 p.m.

Thursday, July 20

Jazz in the Park is back in full swing after a week off for Bastille Days – although the stage didn't get a break! This week, Christopher's Project will be live in the park bringing you funk, jazz and R&B. Maybe I'll see you there!

Until next week, have fun and enjoy Milwaukee!
