Bird scooters return to Milwaukee

Bird, the scooters that dotted the sidewalks of Downtown Milwaukee last summer, will rejoin the scooter scene on Wednesday, as part of the city-run pilot program. They will join the 500 Lime scooters already on the streets.

"We have long looked forward to partnering with Milwaukee to help bring transportation alternatives to residents. Communities throughout the city can benefit from having an affordable and environmentally friendly option for getting around without having to get in the car — and we're thrilled that Bird can now be one of those options," said Paul Steely White, Director of Safety Policy at Bird.

As part of the pilot program, the Department of Public Works has told scooter operators that they they must educate their users on proper use. Riding scooters on sidewalks is prohibited, and scooters can't be parked in a way to impede pedestrian access.

In addition to Lime and Bird, Spin has applied to participate in Milwaukee's pilot program.
