Brew City gets a whiskey barrel tannenbaum courtesy of Jack Daniel
Sure, this is Brew City, but who says we can't have a Whiskey Tree for the holidays?
The Beer Garden at the Deer District has gotten a 26-foot tall whiskey barrel tree made from a stack of Jack Daniel Distillery barrels, bringing a Lynchburg, Tennessee tradition to this beer town.
Installed over the weekend, the tree – a cocktail of 112 American white oak whiskey barrels – will be officially unveiled on Friday, Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m.
The tree is one of five around the country. The others are in Chicago, Dallas, Nashville and, of course, the distillery's home in Lynchburg, where the first such tree debuted in 2011.
There has been a similar installation the last few years at Rogues Gallery in Downtown Milwaukee, though not associated with this initiative.
The tree in the Deer District is not just real purrty for whiskey fans like you and me. It's also for a good cause.
As part of Jack Daniel's "Operation Ride Home" program, the top barrel of each tree will be auctioned off to benefit Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA). Proceeds will help junior-enlisted service members and their families get back home for the holidays.
The program has helped more than 7,200 service members and their families with travel to all 50 states.
"At Jack Daniel's, we like to say that good cheer is our number one export to the world," said Master Distiller Jeff Arnett in a statement.
"The barrel tree in Lynchburg has a special way of bringing people together, just like Operation Ride Home, and we hope friends either living in or visiting these locations will stop by and join us as we celebrate this most special holiday season. After all, it's not what's under the tree that's important, but who's around it."
"The Bucks organization prides itself on providing entertainment options that bring the city of Milwaukee, the state of Wisconsin and Bucks fans everywhere together," added Milwaukee Bucks Senior Vice President of Business Development and Strategy Matt Pazaras.
"This holiday season, we are excited to partner with Jack Daniel's on its barrel tree initiative to continue our tradition of bringing people together and spreading joy within our community."
At Friday's unveiling, fans can meet Bucks legend Bob Dandridge and sample hot and cold Jack Daniel's cocktails, along with a variety of other cocktails, available for purchase from The MECCA Sports Bar and Grill.
Jack Daniel's Barrel Man Kevin Sanders will also be on hand, and the Milwaukee Holiday Chorale will perform.
