Happy hour highlight: Hashi Hour at Screaming Tuna

Welcome to Bar Month at OnMilwaukee! For the entire month of March, we're serving up fun articles on bars, clubs and beverages – including guides, the latest trends, bar reviews, the results of our Best of Bars poll and more. Grab a designated driver and dive in!

It's happy hour, folks, and we are thrilled to say the least. This first week in March, we are shaking off the end-of-winter slump, college kids are finishing up midterms and everyone's been in need of a good end of day beverage.

This spring, Screaming Tuna is getting in on the action and presenting "Hashi Hour."

Located on Seeboth right off of Water Street, Screaming Tuna – a sushi restaurant and Asian bistro with an elegant vibe and modern flair – sits on the Milwaukee River with big windows to look out over the riverwalk. I can only imagine what it will be like to eat there once spring and summer arrive, since those windows double as sliding doors!

While the restaurant's sushi and scrumptious plates have been common treat for foodies, this is the first time Screaming Tuna has held happy hour – and we couldn't be more excited. Hashi, which is Japanese for "chopsticks," takes place Tuesday through Thursday from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Each night features different drinks – Sake Tuesday, Wine Wednesday and Signature Thursday – and along with the drink deals, new specialty rolls, going for $10, will accompany bar specials.

We opted to stop in on Signature Thursday, and sign off our midterm week with a Screaming Tuna cocktail and a couple rolls of sushi. Happy hour Thursdays meant two dollars off signature cocktails and I chose the Honshu Globetrotter. The drink was made from Plantation 5-Year Rum, Kikisui Funaguchi Sake, Carpano Antica Vermouth and St. George Spiced Pear Liqueur. It was the perfect cocktail to finish off the day – and it was just one of many cocktails to choose from.

This week's roll was the Garden of Eden from Chef Noah, featuring candied sambal carrot, cucumber, tempura fried zucchini, roasted shishito pepper, avocado, daikon and red pepper reduction. This roll is perfect for those who like a bit of kick. If spicy isn't your thing, not to worry; new rolls will be featured every week as part of Hashi Hour.

Keep Hashi Hour in mind next week – and beyond! – to try some new specialty drinks and sushi rolls when you're treating yourself at the end of your work day. And keep an eye out for some of our other favorite happy hour spots as we continue through Bar Month in March.
