In the summer months, the air is our friend, and drinking outdoors is the way to go. But in winter, another element, fire, becomes our best drinking buddy, and toasting – or getting toasty – in front of a fireplace is perfect on a blustery night.
OnMilwaukee also has a list of cozy bars, some of which have fireplaces. Here's a more complete list of bars and restaurants that will stoke even the chilliest drinkers and diners:
2501 S. Delaware Ave., (414) 481-8030
(Does a fake fireplace count? Sure, why not?!)
Boone & Crockett
818 S. Water St., (414) 212-8115
2151 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., (414) 249-3188
(Outdoor fire pits)
Monica's On Astor
1228 N. Astor St., (414) 765-9402
777 N. Jefferson St., (414) 276-7625
Great list! But I wish restaurant owners who don't have fireplaces would stop feeling so inferior. I've been to far too many places that have the "fireplace" video playing on TV screens. I"m sorry, but there is nothing cozy about looking at a TV screen that's HUNG ON YOUR CEILING to watch a video of a fire. Fireplaces are great - but guys, you don't have to fake one to get me to come in!
Monicas on Astor. Nice fireplace, comfy leather chairs.
Dave...it was pricey and DIRTY. It felt like eating in the sea lion exhibit at the zoo, with a little bit of the aviary added for good measure. Yech.
College_Dave, it was the Public Natatorium (sp?) and it was VERY cool, but pretty pricey for its day. Wonder what ever happened to the building?
Is there any place that has a fireplace behind the bar kinda like Bryant's has the big fishtank? Btw, what was that place on the south side called that once housed a dolphin tank? I heard that was pretty cool until the health dept put the kibosh on it.
