Drink Wisconsinbly Pub pairs a 5K with a curd fest to balance the calorie count

Maybe you don't feel guilty guzzling cheese curds, but some of us are counting calories, you know.

Surely, we're the folks that Drink Wisconsinbly Pub & Grub had in mind when it announced that its "first annual" Curd Fest would also include a 5K run as part of its first-year festivities. Even Steven, right?

The debut event is slated for Saturday, June 17 at the Walker's Point pub, 135 E. National Ave.

If you aren't watching your waistline, Curd Fest kicks off at 10 a.m. out on Barclay Street – which will be closed to traffic – in front of the pub. Because people love Wisconsin cheese curds:

There will be a cheese curd eating competition, cheese curd tastings, a best cheese curd in Milwaukee competition, live polka music and more.

If you want a clean caloric balance sheet, get there at 8 a.m. for the packet pickup for the 3.1-mile 5CurdK Run/Walk around the neighborhood, which also begins at 10.

But, don't worry, the run/walk doesn't sound especially onerous. After all, the route will include curd-tasting stops, which reminds me of Kramer accidentally handing off his hot tea to a New York Marathon runner in an episode of "Seinfeld." Therefore, I suggest participants stop running while enjoying the curds or bring along a Heimlich-trained friend.

The curd fest is free, registration for the run/walk is $30. Details are here.

In related news, Drink Wisconsinbly is hosting a Kentucky Derby party this Saturday, May 6, from noon until 10 p.m. Don your favorite hat for Oak Lily Cocktails, Mint Juleps and other Derby-inspired quaffs.

Drink Wisconsinbly Pub & Grub took top prize in our 2017 Best of Bars readers poll for best pub and also best new bar. Events like these seem like a downpayment on further such wins in the future.
