Tucked away on the one-way portion of Menomonee Street in the Third Ward, Club Charlies opened its doors last year in a brand new space with an age old concept.

Step inside to find a wooden bar surrounded by several booths and tables, televised sporting events on the wall and a classic combo of beer and liquor behind the rail. Voted by OnMilwaukee.com readers as the 2010 Best New Bar, Club Charlies popularity could indeed be a reflection of the incredible specials found on the menu all week long.

Happy hour Monday through Friday is littered with two-for-ones, half price options and the coveted $1 Pabst deal reserved for MIAD students. Too early in the day for a cocktail? Hit up the list of six buck lunch specials including pulled pork, chopped salad or beef sliders.

I have no idea how this Restaurant/bar got such rave reviews. My three girlfriends and I were asked to leave last night while dinning for Downtown Dinning week. We asked the waitress why the salad we received was not what the menu advertised it would be. Her response was that she was hired to only work during downtown dinning and thought the salad on the menu was given to customers yesterday but had no idea why they were giving out these salads today. She offered us to bring out the soup which was the other option and before she could bring it out the owner came over and simply said: "I think you should all leave." We were appalled. He said, "If you are going to complain about everything you can leave. This is a bar" This has never happened to my friends and I and we will never return to this Establishment.
