Bar Louie closing temporarily
Bar Louie, a national chain bar and grill that opened at 1114 N. Water St. in August 2006, is reportedly closing until Sept. 5 due to failure to file its liquor license in time.
Milwaukee Ald. Robert Baumann confirmed this today and added, "They are not legally precluded from serving food. They are not required to close. They are only precluded from serving and selling alcohol."
Bar Louie has another area location at Bayshore Town Center in Glendale.

Fox 6 also made Bar Louie the top story that evening, the same day that city officials turned down a proposal that would keep sex offenders from living near schools. What is more important to the people in Milwaukee the safety of children, or the fact that a "watering hole" may go dry?
Fox 6 news reported the State is going after them for back taxes owed, so they don't want the City to grant them a new license. If they are indeed having issues in other cities w/ payments, but yet the places are busy, seems shady!!
I just walked by and they were trying to spruce up the outside... they added some lava rocks in front around the trees and they pulled out some weeds. Perhaps their next big project is the bathrooms because I agree, they are unbelievably nasty.
Bar Louie has been crowded whenever I ventured in. I would think that location is doing OK and the Bayshore location is also always crowded.
They close up almost a year after they open? Seem strange to anybody? Restaurants America (Bar Louie's parent company) has been having a bunch of problems recently. They were supposed to open Red Star Tavern in the 3rd Ward and then pulled out of that. The Red Star Tavern in Columbus, OH was literally kicked out for not paying rent. And now this. Can a restaurant/bar be closed for a month and be able to reopen? That's a lot of money lost.
