This probably wasn't the fire that the Brewers were looking for to ignite their playoff hopes.
Right-hander Ben Sheets had to exit his Downtown home around 5:30 p.m. Monday when a small kitchen fire in a unit close to his brought the Milwaukee Fire Department to the scene.
According to several witnesses, the high-rise home that Sheets owns on the Milwaukee River in the heart of Downtown Milwaukee (I'm withholding the exact address) was subjected to possible minor smoke and water damage after a kitchen fire in one of the building's other units.
Several owners and their kids had to evacuate as officials snuffed out the flames and turned off alarms. Sheets, dressed in a hoodie and jeans, hung out with the crowd but soon headed to Mo's, A Place for Steaks, a nearby steakhouse.
The Brewers are off tonight, so Sheets was home at the time of the fire.

wow.ben sheets is the reason the brewers can win.50% is his fault.your being pretty hard on the guy.are you sure that no one else is at fault? weeks? hall? suppan? the bullpen.i think there is a fair amount of players who haven't lived uo to expectations.yesi too am dissapointed in sheets. just another athlete that seems to be hurt way too often

to be fair, i am not completely happy about Sheets this season either. however he did pitch the best game by a brewer pitcher this month with a complete game shutout 9/6. also, it's not like he was taking up a spot on the rotation of someone more deserving. seriously, i've gotten over the loyalty issue season's ago as players AND teams show no loyalty for anything and are always chasing the almighty buck (or saving a buck if you're the team). look how the brewers treated Molitor after his last year here. if memory serves, they offered him a paycut after another terrific season. i think it terribly contradictory as well, that most fans want Sheets out of here, and yet will still criticize hime for signing a big contract elsewhere. seriously, which is it? i admit, i know nothing of his off-season training regimen, but in interviews and such, he's always come off (to me anyway) as a humble, team player. and always red, it's just my stupid opinion and i could be wrong.

Sandstorm, thanks for the response. Here is why I assign so much blame. On opening day if you were asked how many games Sheets, our ace, needed to win for the Brewers to make the playoffs the general consensus would have been 15-20. We currently are one game short and may end up about 3 or 4 by the end of the weekend. The same thing happened last year with his fragile self. His record after the all-star break this year and last is terrible. His missed starts, short outings, and losses are the number one reason the Brewers will come up a bit shy of post season play again. All the other stuff could have been covered up with two healthy studs at the top of the rotation. I have also heard that his off season strength and fitness conditioning are terrible and that is why come mid July each year he breaks down. He owes the people of Milwaukee more then he has produced over the years. I also feel jilted that he will walk away from such strong fan support and a very large amount of money that the Brewers will offer him without one bit of remorse. He lacks class and will never be more then an average pitcher in MLB. Maybe he will pitch on Sunday and get a big clinching win. But more then likely he will bruise his uterus, give up six runs, and pull himself in the top of the 4th inning. No Santa! WTF?

red, thanks for the reply. it made sense, although to assign all that blame in Sheets is odd when he won more games than some Brewers players that were healthy all season long. where's the rage for Suppan? really, i don't mean to condescend, and i certainly don't know it all. not even close. i hardly know some. what i do know is when some windbag gets on these boards and starts talking ill-informed smack i do feel a certain need to bring 'em back to earth. sorry you happened to be the windbag in this case. i have posted plenty of non-antagonistic replies agreeing with plenty of people. i give credit where it's due, but if i feel someone is being an ass i'll call 'em out. just like you did. because red, whether you want to admit it or not we are not that much different. only i know others perception of me around here and don't disagree with that perception a lot of the time. i'm very aware of how i come off around here. i also know people don't like to hear the truth or have their baloons popped. it really is not my fault your logic is not sound and any pitcher who wins more games than they lose, no matter the salary, is not "50%" responsible for his team not making the playoffs. oh and red? there is no santa claus, and Sheets probably is 50% responsible for that as he sold me the gun.

Sandstorm, the past two seasons Ben Sheets has been a complete failure. The large amount of money he receives does not match the results he has posted. 12 wins '07 / 13 wins '08 with time on the DL and missed starts. The past two seasons I assign blame for the Brewers not making the post season on: 25% Coaching 25% Poor hitting and fielding by the infield 50% Sheets poor performance and being undependable in the second half of both '07 and '08. He will leave after the season for a very large and undeserved contract without even considering signing with the Brewers for less then what the N.Y.'s and L.A.'s have to offer. Even though he knows he has been ripping them off the last few seasons and has never lived up to the hype he has received. I would like to take this time to thank you for being the most condescending, antagonist, know it all jerk to post at onmilwaukee. And you are the smartest person in the world too. Good job!
