The Brewers waited 11 years to play at Fenway and now they have to wait another day. |

Baseball is a sport with a very distinct rhythm. The innings and games click by like a metronome, providing the backdrop for half the year. When you follow the game closely, it becomes a companion. The games provide comfort, context and a source for conversation with strangers.
When your favorite team plays a day game, the night seems empty. When there is a day off, and there are only about 18 over the course of the season, the gap between games seems huge.
And, when it rains...
Well, that just sucks.
The Brewers were supposed to take on the Red Sox in an interleague game tonight at Fenway Park. I was fired up to watch the action from Fenway Park, which the Brewers hadn't visited in 11 years. I wanted to see Diasuke Matsusaka face Prince Fielder. I wanted to see how Boston's rabid fans would treat Eric Gagne and Dale Sveum.
Truth be told, I wanted to watch the game because there was nothing else worthwhile on TV.
But, the game was rained out.
The teams now play a rare day-night, split-doubleheader on Saturday. The first game starts just before 3 p.m. on Fox (Channel 6). The second game takes place at 7:35 p.m. and the Brewers will not televise it in Milwaukee. Many fans will be upset about this development, but I'm almost grateful.
I like watching baseball, but I can't commit to six hours. If I had that much free time during a day, I'd be a scratch golfer, a competitive 10K runner or an accomplished guitarist.
One baseball game per day is a comfortable, natural thing in the summer.
Two games constitutes too much of a good thing.
