What's new this year at Riversplash! in Downtown Milwaukee? In addition to a much improved music lineup that includes indie favorite Poi Dog Pondering, the festival will feature gated entrances and a $1 charge for the ability to buy beer.
And, unlike every other year at this annual kickoff to summer in Milwaukee, Riversplash! attendees will have enter through gates on Water Street, Juneau Avenue or Edison Avenue into "a more intimate setting," according to organizers. Gated entrances will also located on the north and south ends of Pere Marquette Park.
Wristbands will be sold for $1 to individuals who wish to buy or drink alcoholic beverages on the festival grounds.
"Unlike previous RiverSplash events, there will be a temporary fence surrounding the festival area. Festival-goers will enter RiverSplash through one of seven gates, and just like Summerfest or major sporting events, security staff will conduct inspections and screening," said spokesperson Jeff Fleming. "People who choose to buy or consume alcohol at RiverSplash will be required to purchase a $1 wristband. This will make it simpler for people selling alcohol to make sure dirnking laws and ordinances are followed," added Fleming.
These two changes should better control crowds and help monitor alcohol consumption.
Riversplash! will feature more than 40 bands (including Poi Dog Pondering, U2Zoo, 5 Card Studs, Pat McCurdy, Copper Box and more) on seven stages, an outdoor sculpture exhibit, more than 20 restaurants, street performers, its signature fireworks, children's events and activities, and according to a news release "lots of fun on the Milwaukee River."
The 20th anniversary celebration of RiverSplash!, once again presented by Miller Lite, opens on Friday, June 5 and runs through Sunday, June 7 in Downtown Milwaukee.

I will not be going back this year because of last years issues. This marked the tipping point of water street becoming an unsafe/gang infestided area for the rest of summer last year. You can catch me on north, brady, or third sorry water street

Great for the wristbands, but what about the security issues from last year? Have they addressed those?

Copper Box I bet it will still be crowded. Went last year - likely skip it this year.
