I think you missed the point about socialized medicine...you may not have paid a dime (10 pence) put someone had to foot the bill! Thank the tax payers. Naturally you'd prefer someone else to pay your bill instead of being accountable for it yourself.
By and large Brits are not big fans of the poor options that socialized medicine offers.
