New bar trends beget fresh takes on old tradition
In the last year, "luxury ultra lounges" opened on Milwaukee Street and Old World Third Street. Wine bars are pulling corks both downtown and in the suburbs. We're still tapping our fair share of hometown breweries but more and more beer stops are opening imported bottles. And, of course, the push for smoke free establishments continues.

Milwaukee welcomed a smattering of swanky 'tini lounges during the past decade, some of which are still around, a couple of which didn't make it. What are your thoughts on this? In general, are martini bars timeless or are they done?

Milwaukee's make-out bar welcomes local lovers
Although Brew City is sometimes accused of being behind the times, a new bar puts Milwaukee ahead of the curve. Last week, Don Krause -- who also owns Art Bar -- opened a non-smoking, "make-out bar" called Two.

Bryant's Cocktail Lounge is back, baby!
Bryant's Cocktail Lounge has re-opened. On July 8, new owner John Dye flipped the switch on the red neon "Open" sign for the first time in nine months and welcomed eager guests in to experience the bar's revival.

Third Ward cocktail lounge Viridarium has been open since December, though you may not have known it. Tucked away from the bustle of Broadway or Milwaukee Street, the cozy, comfortable bar sits on the corner of Jackson and Corcoran.
