Build-A-Bear sells message of animal compassion
Mayfair's Build-A-Bear Workshop isn't cheap -- it can cost up to $50 for your kid to "make" a stuffed animal and adorn it with adorable accessories. Luckily, however, the experience delivers more than a lesson in consumerism.

Tosa's Flat Top set to stir up suburban dining scene
We attend a media preview at the new Flat Top Grill, and it was pretty good -- we all left stuffed beyond belief. The price for an unlimited stir-fry lunch is just $8.99, which is quite a bargain for that much food. And, if you like the concept of the "create your own stir-fry," a la the Mongolian barbecue, you won't be disappointed.

Tosa police wow Mayfair shoppers with fast response
I go to Mayfair all the time and I would never expect to be held up at gun point inside the mall. But that's exactly what happened to someone yesterday at lunch time, it seems. Not in the parking lot, but right inside the mall, inside a bathroom. Shoppers rightfully praised the Wauwatosa police for their speed and efficiency.

Inconsistency mars McCormick & Schmick's visits
Amy Schubert visited the new McCormick & Schmick's, 2550 N. Mayfair Rd., in Wauwatosa, with high expectations. And to say she was disappointed would be a huge understatement.

Find the best price at Mayfair without leaving home
A friend and I were talking just this morning about how it'd be great to be able to know where you could find a desired item on sale, so you wouldn't be tricked into paying too much. Not two hours later, I learned about NearbyNow.com.

I.D. needed to shop, but not to vote?
I'm not here to argue the pros and cons of Mayfair's new I.D. policy. But, I can't help but wonder why an 18 year-old now has to show an i.d. to shop but still doesn't have to vote for any elected office in our City or Country.

Scenes from a mall
If it's too cold for kids to go to school, isn't it too cold for a trip to the mall?

Mayfair Heinemann's closing but will reopen
For family-friendly dining at a reasonable price, there are few places better than Heinemann's. Therefore the loss of the venerable Silver Spring Drive location in Whitefish Bay was sad. That our "neighborhood" Heinemann's will return sure is good news to me.

Take the Milwaukee Challenge: Bayshore vs. Mayfair
This holiday season, it seemed like the right time to pit the two Milwaukee shopping giants head to head. Venerable old Mayfair Mall has stood as king of the hill for some time, but now the rebuilt Bayshore Town Center is ready to give Mayfair a run for its money.

Welcome to the modern town square
Visiting the mall during off hours can be an interesting people watching experience, as I discovered this morning when I had to make a first-thing visit to the Apple store at Mayfair.
