Gig roundup: The Toasters carry the ska torch
In the `60s, ska meant one outfit: The Skatalites. That all changed when 2Tone madness swept the UK in 1979 and bands like The Specials, The Selecter, Madness, The Beat and others mixed ska with soul and punk to create a hybrid. Inspired by that movement, British expat Rob "Bucket" Hingley formed The Toasters in New York in the early 1980s and except for the Skatalites, no band has purveyed ska internationally longer than The Toasters.
