"Golden Door" opens up the emigrant's world
If you’ve seen his stark and beautiful “Respiro,” you know that Italian writer/director Emanuele Crialese’s look at emigration is bound to be unique. His new film, “Golden Door” (Called “Nuovomondo” or “New World” in Italy) strikes an unusual chord.

Italian Film Festival makes great debut
With only about a month to organize the first Italian Film Festival in Milwaukee, Barbara Klein, Paul Salsini and I didn't know exactly what to expect. Last night was the first of three nights at Marquette's Varsity Theater and with a turnout of more than 100 for "The Fever," we were pleased.

Pipito salutes Porticello with new restaurant
Tony Pipito, owner of Mama's Italian Cuisine and the attached Papa's Social Club at 7712-18 W. Burleigh St., will open a new Italian restaurant in Oconomowoc this fall. Porticello, named for the Sicilian town of his forebears, will be managed by his son, Steve.
