Bad day at the Dog Park!

Saturdays we take our dog to the Runway Dog Park before 10 am. Recently, I went after 10 am. Note to self- NEVER Again!

Each visit to the dog park is about one hour of pure frisbee action. On this particular day, another dog took my dogs' frisbee and ran off!

The owner of the other dog just looked and did nothing about it. His dog ended up destroying my dogs frisbee and did not seem too apologetic. He even told me I should have stronger frisbees(which I do)! So I had to take my dog home because her day was cut short. When was it acceptable for people to assume it's ok for their dog to take what does not belong to them?

On the drive out, I remembered the independent pet store down the block. Stopped in and picked up two new frisbees and went right back to the park- but I made sure no other dogs would even get near my dog. Such a shame!

Please remember-mind your and your dogs manners at the park!

Out of State Restaurant Review: Cyrus- Watch out French Laundry!

On a recent trip to Sonoma County, we made reservations at Cyrus in Healdsvurg, CA. This was the best dining experience I've encountered. From the moment you walk in, you know it's going to be different. They have a seasonal menu and a Chef's Tasting Menu (which we selected). This dinner was 7 courses and we chose a 5 course wine selection to accompany the meal. The first thing you receive after seating is the Champagne (Dream Dance has this) and Caviar Cart. Then Canape's and Amuse Bouche to start your culinary journey.

Each course, you think, cannot get better- and it does! To tempt you, some items on our menu were Waygu Rib Eye and Foie Gras on a hazlenut homemade doughnut. When I made my reservation, they found out I was from Milwaukee. They made sure one of their WI transplants came over to say hello (she was from Thiensville). One of the courses is a cheese course- which the staff pointed out to me in detail.

The service at Cyrus was unlike any I have ever encountered. Their attention to detail and knowledge of food and wine was amazing. They could bring a couple of local Milwaukee restaurant managers to tears! The older couple next to us said they had been dining at the French Laundry since it opened and Cyrus was better! My jaw dropped at this remark.

They end the experience with a Mignardises (homemade candies) cart. To make the night even more memorable, they give you a personalized and dated copy of the menu with the wine selections and a homemade brownie "to remember the night later".

Upon returning home, I researched Cyrus and found out the older couple was correct. Cyrus has two Michelin stars and is slated to be the next French Laundry of CA. After experincing such a dining event, I can see why.

Wauwatosa Curling Club Eight Ender!

On monday Night, March 12, 2007, The undefeated Krutilla Rink scored an eight ender during leauge play. This is extremely rare in the Curling world. Melva and James knew that the eight ender might happen, but waited for the other team's skip to throw his last rock. His rock went wide, jammed into his own rock and the rock went out.The Team members are: James Krutilla- skip, Melva Sabatke- third, Keith Kempski-second and Joan Garuglak-lead. Good Curling!

NOTE: The link URL leads to a photo of the eight ender.

A slice of diner heaven in Kenosha, WI.

A few weekends ago, we saddled up the wagon and headed down to Illinois to go antiquing. Ended up buying a few cool things- pottery, 1950's serving dish, 1940's menus and just having a laugh or two.
We were looking for some place new to dine in the SE Wisconsin area- we found Frank's Diner-Wow!

The service is true Wisconsin hospitality. They treated everyone like were regulars. While we were there (noonish on a Sunday), the place was buzzing with 20-30 somethings, all looking tired or hungover. Back in the day, some of their most famous guests were Bela Lugosi and Duke Ellington.
The food- you better come hungry! Their signature dish is the garbage plate. Just imagine a breakfast dish with hash browns, eggs, ham, green onions and cheese in it. Yes, it's a heart attack on a plate! They have so many combinations of the garbage plate, you have to check it out yourself! The pancakes looked large and fulfilling. I had the Bleu Burger-it did not disappoint. It was a thick burger with cheese, bacon and crisp lettuce. The french fries were not heavy and complimented the burger.
They make their own bread and desserts too. Did I mention the Bloody Mary's?

Curling. You know you want to!

So you've heard about it, seen it or know someone who does it.

On Saturday, January 20th, the Wauwatosa Curling Club, 7300 Chestnut St., hosts an open house from 3-5 p.m. You can go to the club and learn how to play the sport. Thw whole thing is free! The club members will be on hand to tell you how to do it and give you a brief history. I won't be there for the openhouse- I'm off to curl in an out of town bonspiel! Curling is addictive...seriously.

I have another blog, but I promised my OnMilwaukee.com homies to blog this when I talk about curling!
