Tuesday April 3rd, 2007 - Chicago, IL

Time keeps getting away from me. I was hoping to start back up on the movie script but I was busy doing all kinds of minutia today and didn’t get to it yet again. This is why I am frustrated with this project because it’s not priority one because I have to live my life first.

One of my big concerns is finding a new place to live. I need to by June 1st and today I had lunch with a woman I used to work with who has a house up in Lake County. She is divorced and could use any extra income she can get so it would be a win/win for us both.

I looked at it and it’s a great house. There is a finished basement that has a bedroom and office next to each other and there is a private bathroom and shower too. It would be very livable and there’s plenty of room for all my stuff, which isn’t much after I got rid of most of it last year. I’ll have a few clothes and some books and CDs and DVDs and that’s it.

There is a TV already down there and a bed and I’ll have to pick up a desk and maybe a few shelves to hold my comedy class stuff so I can be organized but that’s not a problem. What may be a problem is the location. She lives WAY out yonder where the UFOs land and it’s a ways to go for me to get anywhere in town quickly. There is a train that stops in the neighborhood apparently but I haven’t had much experience being a train commuter. I have lived in the Chicago area off and on most of my adult life and I have always had cars because I like the freedom of being able to come and go when I want to. This is different.

I can still come and go when I want to but I’ll be closer to Wisconsin than I would be to Chicago and I like living in the city. I’ve lived in the suburbs before though and it’s not as bad as I thought. This is still pretty far out. The good thing is it would be an easy fit for us both and it’s month to month and affordable. I am not going to cheat her and I’m not very worried about her doing it to me either. My gut feeling tells me this is the right situation. I can always move if I don’t like it and no matter where I live I’ll be on the road a lot so it’s not a huge issue. The main thing I’m looking for is cheap rent with no long term leases.

I didn’t think I’d still be living in basements like a spider at this age but I’m used to it. I lived in a basement most of my childhood growing up with my grandparents and many of my living situations have involved going up or down stairs to a room without windows. It doesn’t bother me but I sure thought my life would turn out different. I thought I’d be rich and famous by now and be living in a nice house in a nice neighborhood. If I take this I’ll be in the nice house in the nice neighborhood, now all I’m missing is the rich and famous.

I chose to live this gypsy lifestyle and the last thing I need now is a long lease or worse a big mortgage payment every month. She already has one of those so if I can help her I’ll gladly do it because I’m not going to be there all that much anyway. At least she’ll have a little help she can count on and I’ll have a nice place to go where I can be alone and think and create and be away from the grind of comedy for a while. I will be away from most of civilization. This place is really out there. I might like it and I might hate it but I will let it work out how it works out. It’s a calculated risk and I need a change so let’s roll the dice.
