Tuesday December 26th, 2006 - LaCrosse, WI

Alright, enough yammering about the holidays already. They are what they are and I can let it get to me or I can let it go. I choose to let it go, at least for another year. I have to get going on making something happen for 2007. As far as I’m concerned this is my big shot. I’ve worked a lifetime to get to this point and I am in the sniper’s perch with one bullet in my rifle and I’m waiting to take a clean shot. I want that shot to be as clear as I can get it.

The first thing I need to do is start exercising. I am a fat lazy pig and I can’t stand it. I’m way overdue to start a daily program and I am going to do it NOW. I love to sample all of the food on the road and it’s been great for twenty plus years but now it’s time to practice a little moderation. This holiday season was loaded with great food and I’m still digesting that great meal I had at Bill Gorgo’s mom’s house on Christmas Eve. I need to cut back.

Tonight I stopped in Milwaukee and had a Ponderosa dinner with my cousin Brett. I am officially making that my last pig out and now it’s time to turn it around health wise. I bet my colon is getting close to being like Elvis’s and that’s not good. I need some vegetables and I know it. I love red meat and sugar and everything else that we in America eat every day even though we know we shouldn’t. I am taking responsibility and putting a cork on a lifetime of eating whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. Those days are now OVER. I am glad I was able to make the decision myself now rather than after I had my heart explode.

It still might, but at least I’m going to take a lot more care of what I eat and will make it a point to get SOME kind of physical exercise every day. I am starting today and I plan on keeping it up for the rest of my life. That could be over tomorrow for all I know, but I will be true to my word. I have kept this diary every day since March and I will do this as well.

I need to walk a lot more and stretch and find something I like to do like swim or ride a bike and make it a part of my daily routine. I’ve cheated myself long enough and it’s time for a total body cleanse. I think that will help keep my mind in a good space and I bet my creative energy gets stronger too. It‘s not going to be easy but I know it‘s the right choice.

The second thing I need to do is make a plan of what I want to get done next year and I got that started in the car on the drive here. I took a pair of one nighters that I now wish I hadn’t but I am a man of my word so I’ll do it. Tomorrow I am in scenic Windom, MN.

I have never heard of Windom, MN and hopefully tomorrow will be my one and only stop there. Then I come back here to LaCrosse for a show and then head back to have a final Chicago Style Standups meeting before heading to Calgary for New Year’s Eve.

I popped for a hotel room tonight because I wanted to break up the drive. That is a big thing I need to amputate for next year are these Lewis and Clark sized drives across all of America for $200. I need to either fly or drive for a lot more money. That being said, I am going to fulfill these dates because I like the booker. I am going to show up and give them the absolute BEST show I possibly can. Look out Windom, Hurricane Dobie is coming!
