Reuniting with William Elliott Whitmore
Grabbing some late-night eats in Reading, England, Whitmore stands to the left and my husband relaxes in a chair in the foreground.

What is a blog? For us it is a short blurb that we write when the mood strikes us. It can be first person, funny or informative. In short, a blog is whatever we want it to be. Published Nov. 4, 2009 at 2:01 p.m.

UPDATE: As of Nov. 5, this show has been canceled due to illness.

This past August I got married, and as married folks tend to do, my husband and I set off on our honeymoon two weeks after the big day.

In early August I wrote a blog asking for travel suggestions for our European destinations: Paris and London. Many of you graciously responded and I read each one, compiling copious notes before my trip.

I told you where I was going, but I didn't fully explain why we'd chosen our destination. As it turns out, my husband, who is a drummer, was asked to accompany Iowa-based singer-songwriter William Elliott Whitmore on a three-week tour that would take them all over the UK as well as mainland Europe. The tour began in a small city just south of London on Sept. 10, and as it would turn out, we'd have just enough time to squeeze our honeymoon in before meeting up with Whitmore in London on Sept. 9.

I jumped in the van and joined the guys for their first five days of tour, all of which were in southern England. I saw them play in awkwardly set up performing art spaces, in crowded bars, in big, proper venues and on a gigantic stage to hundreds of people at the End of The Road Festival in Dorset.

Every night it was different and every night it was incredible. When, after a great show at London's Relentless Garage, they hopped a 2 a.m. ferry to the mainland, I had to catch a black cab and fly home because, after all, my OnMilwaukee.com duties were calling even louder than London was.

My husband's been home now for a month, but neither of us has seen Will since Europe, as he's been busy touring around the States. Thankfully, that tour brings him and his banjo to Milwaukee this Friday, Nov. 6 at the Bay View Brew Haus for a 7 p.m. show with Hoots and Hell Mouth and John the Savage.

This is going to be a good one, folks. If you haven't heard his latest, "Animals in the Dark," let this be your chance. His storytelling via gritty lyrics and voice do not disappoint.
