The Static Model makes no apologies for new disc
Scharber says, "We just like to come up with music that people can relate to."

The "Electric Slide" may not be played, but the electricity will be present as The Static Model, a four-piece rock band from Milwaukee, makes its way to Linneman's Riverwest Inn on April 23 to throw a CD release party.

For two years, The Static Model has been working on what became its EP, titled "Sorry Everybody," influenced by artists such as Wilco, The Replacements and Bob Dylan. With three relatively new tracks and three demos that turned into something more, the band hopes no listener will be sorry after lending an ear to the disc.

"We want to write and play honest music," says guitarist/vocalist Quinn Scharber. "We're not too image-savvy, which I don't think is a bad thing. We just like to come up with music that people can relate to."

But the band doesn't want to force the music into your CD collection.

"We'd just like people to listen to it and make their own assumptions," Scharber says.

The Static Model was born from the ashes of Menlo, a spicy rock group that both Scharber and singer/guitarist Tom Giebel were part of. Experiencing much frustration with Menlo, the two decided to depart and satisfy their thirst for rock elsewhere. After placing a few ads in the area, bassist Ian Clark and drummer Joe Kirshling contacted Quinn. Things fell into place, and The Static Model came out kicking.

This stripped-down rock and roll group with an alt-country and indie-rock framework is excited to perform live.

"We want to come across live like we do on record, with people noticing us as good songwriters and vocalists," says Scharber. "It's a well-performed show every time."

If hard-core rock and roll and yelling are what scare you away, have no fear with The Static Model.

"We don't try to blow your head off when we play live," Scharber adds.

The Static Model performs Saturday, April 23 at 10 p.m. at Linneman's Riverwest Inn, 1001 E. Locust St. The party is part of a double CD release party featuring the White Hot Tizzies as well. Call (414) 263-9844 for more information.

The "Sorry Everybody" EP can be picked up at the show or at local music stores.
