I think it's a combination of the lack of marketing, economic conditions...but also a lack in popularity with regards to many of the acts. Eric Benet and Mint Condition haven't had a hit in about a decade. Boys II Men, likewise, didn't sell hardly any tickets at State Fair last year. R. Kelly, while he will sell a little better, isn't selling MUCH at the Milwaukee Theater for his show in a couple days. Despite selling out almost everywhere across the country, Steve Harvey didn't sell out here a couple months ago. Even popular hip hop acts don't do well here (see Lil Wayne's concert a few weeks ago). It's a sad, but true fact. For some reason, the vast majority of African American artists can't sell tickets for shows in Milwaukee.

I had ticket's to this concert, and was not necessarily to see Eric Benet. I wanted to see on of the best live R&B bands ever, and that is Mint Condition. I am upset, but of course as a consumer I have no control over it. However, I am starting to see a stikingly bad trend with national performances being scheduled here. When I went to see Ain't Misbehavin some months back, the house audience at Milwaukee Theatre barely filled the front sections, and this again happened at the Paul Mooney show in October. Is it bad advertising? Or, is the economy really hitting pockets this year? For the shows I see, my only theory could be with the high unemployment rate of African-Americans in MKE, it has become increasingly hard for black professionals here to purchase tickets en masse since we may be comprised of a smaller population. We can't carry a full show.. Not to mention many of us will venture to Chicago at the drop of a hat to see any show. Does anyone else want to weigh in? Marketing or the economy?
