Goodwill's Retique opens this weekend in the Third Ward and it already has plenty of specials to celebrate. A smaller, boutique version of Goodwill, Retique will showcase a new version of second-hand goods with beautiful displays of the best Goodwill has to offer.
Hit the store tonight with a "Be Beautiful Bar" from 6-9 p.m. Steal some make-up and application tips from beauty professionals under the soothing sounds of a cello and violin duet. While supplies last, attendees will receive a free beauty goodie bag.
On Friday, indulge in a "Chic Treats Night" from 6-9 p.m. Join the Third Ward's new Javino for wine, cheese and chocolate at Retique. A free sample box of Quality Candy goes to shoppers while supplies last.
But the celebration doesn't stop there. Join Goodwill Retique Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for "Fashion, Flair and Hair." Renowned Milwaukee fashion advisor Bjorn Nasset helps you shop for just the right look and Beauty on Water provides you with a few hair tips. Shoppers will get free hair product samples while supplies last.

I like how stores such as Retique and Rethreads are attempting to remove the stigma of shopping secondhand. They both offer a boutique atmosphere that may make the average shopper more comfortable than the typical Salvation Army. That being said, when I checked out Retique for the first time, I felt like the store pretty much took away the thrill of getting your hands on a unique find. I found the items to be tasteful, in good shape, and priced reasonably. They carry clothes that are a safe buy from well-known, mainstream labels, but there was nothing that was truly incredible or unusual. Maybe in the future they'll start to stock more of that, but until they do, I'll still be sifting through the racks at other thrift stores. Rethreads, by the way, can be pretty awesome when it comes to scoring things that are more on the funky side. And they have more of a selection of accessories!
