Dave and Busters, Wauwastosa doesn't want you. |

In July, I reported that Dave & Buster's, founded in 1982 and headquartered in Dallas, would bring its high-energy restaurant / entertainment concept to Wauwatosa.
Just this week, though, Wauwatosa's Community Development Committee voted, 4-2, against allowing a new Dave & Buster's where I reported it would open, the old Ewald dealership site, 2201-2215 N. Mayfair Rd.
Committee concerns ranged from security to traffic to noise; oddly, all things that happen at Mayfair Mall nearly every day.
"I just don't know that it fits right there," Ald. Linda Nikcevich said during the meeting. Ald. Dennis McBride said he was concerned about security and "hours of operation" at the 32,000-sq. ft. proposed location that would neighbor a huge Walgreen's.
I'll let you form your own opinion about Wauwatosa's Community Development Committee, and please express them via the Talkbacks. For me, I'll suggest that D&B take their idea and come on Downtown; we'll have you in the Park East or how about at The Brewery development?
Seems odd for Wauwastosa to turn away business from the region. So, if Wauwatosa shuns Dave & Buster's, I say let's find a way to keep them in the area and build one Downtown.

UPDATE: These types of committee recommendations typical. But, last night (Nov. 4th) the full Wauwatosa Common Council voted 13-1 to approve the conditional-use permit for Dave & Busters. I still stay build it Downtown.

I grew up in Milwaukee and have lived in Dallas for the last 20 years and Dave and Busters is an awesome family oriented place that all ages love, kids and parents alike. It has something for everyone and is extremely popular in Dallas. If Tosa does not want it, I am sure it will be a hit somewhere else. All development comes with noise and traffic, but the tax benefits offset this significantly.

To me this is a no brainer... this is where a lot of restaurants need to open, especially a concept like this. A major concern is probably security and the possibility of some random, usually young(er) idiot causing problems. Have extra security and be as strict as necessary!!! Downtown shouldn't have to suffer because a few bad apples can't behave.

umm.. finally?! I would love to have a dave and busters here.. its about time milwaukee got one.. For those of you not in the know.. its pretty much a chuck e. cheese with a bar in the middle of the game room. But it also has virtual bowling and golf.. tons of fun!

Great idea at that location. Once again the conservative mindset wins again. A national chain bringing $$, creating jobs, and paying taxes and everyones worried about traffic and security issues. Doubt anyone ever looked at the companies history with fights, shootings, ie. trouble. Bring them downtown!
