The first Milwaukee Zine Fest is this weekend, July 18-20, and it's free. The event takes place on the fourth floor of the Golda Meir Library, 2311 E. Hartford Ave., on the UW-Milwaukee campus.
What's a zine? It's a low budget, self-published underground publication. Local zines like Mutate Zine, Riverwurst Comics, Abandon City and more will have a table at Zine Fest to share and sell DIY periodicals.
The fun starts Friday night with a cookout and baseball / kickball game at 4 p.m. Bands play from 6 to 10 p.m. at Nowhere Central, 1315 W. McKinley Ave. Music events will take place on Saturday and Sunday night, too.
The zine fair is Saturday afternoon from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will feature workshops, shopping and dialogues. On Sunday, indie films, workshops, presentations and dialogues run from 1 to 5 p.m. These events are on the fourth floor of Meir Library.
