What is a blog? For us it is a short blurb that we write when the mood strikes us. It can be first person, funny or informative. In short, a blog is whatever we want it to be. Published Sept. 4, 2009 at 5:15 p.m.

Veteran WTMJ-AM (620) personality Phil Cianciola confirms via Twitter this afternoon that he's been shown the door.

He tweets: "It's true. I was let go from my job today... Hope to talk to you on the radio again soon."

Cianciola is a long-time member of the afternoon "Green House" hosted by Jonathan Green. At the beginning of the year, WTMJ extended Green's contract, but didn't announce details.

There are no other details right now, and I'm trying to get a comment from 'TMJ management.

Cianciola, by the way, is a West Allis native and a graduate of UW-Milwaukee. After graduating in 1982, according to a biography pulled from WTMJ's Web site, he headed to Oklahoma City for a radio gig. Cianciola was back in town two years later where he's been working in radio here ever since.

He's the guy behind the annual "Green House Nuggets" CD of bits from the show, with proceeds going to charity.

I just feel a need to also voice my disappointment regarding the firing of Phil. His voice was always welcome in my car and in my kitchen every afternoon. I just kept worrying that there must be something going on with Phil's family that he would be on leave for so long. TMJ has made an error. Whatever 'focus group' they looked at to help with their decision was not a large enough sample of listeners in Milwaukee. Phil was able to manage Green's at times way off target tangents. The people sitting in Phil's chair now are now doing just that -- filling a seat. I miss Phil.

I'm not surprised to see Phil go. It's time to change the drive time show all together, it ran out of steam about the time Bill Michaels started. I agree with an earlier post, move Green to an early afternoon slot. Keep Clark Howard for an hour, Wagner can go. Sykes is in the right spot. Either find a partner for Michaels or a new host, his shtick is old.

I too thought Phil was off for some reason. This show has lost almost all of my interest. I'm sure ratings will drop severely. Very poor decision.

Oh you have got to be kidding me! Well WTMJ Radio as really kissed the pig on this one! Firing Phil!? Do the people that manage that station listen to it in the afternoon? Phil was excellent ...an excellent reporter that could do create a chuckle on the ride home from work. WTMJ,your afternoon drive show now OFFICIALLY sucks! Swallow your pride and call Phil back. Its been done before...other stations in this market have sucked it up and called fired personnel back after management realized that they screwed up. Come on TMJ, own like big boys and girls, you made a mistake, own your error in "judgement" and get Phil back. I believe it it time for me to find a new afternoon station and fire WTMJ Radio.
