Exec set to sign resolution for lakefront Indian center

Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker will sign a resolution on Friday, Sept. 24 at 11 a.m. specifying terms of an agreement between HONOR/Loonsfoot, Inc. and Milwaukee County for the renovation of the former Coast Guard Station near McKinley Marina into a Wisconsin Indian Historic, Educational and Cultural Center. HONOR will provide all funding to construct, operate, repair and maintain the facility.

2012 predictions so far

Back in December, I wrote a blog post called "Bold and not-so-bold predictions for 2012." Almost halfway through the year, I see now that one has come true, two have not, and two are yet to be decided (but I still stand by my predictions).

Is this recall fair?

As far as I`m concerned, recall elections were designed to deal with politicians who have committed acts of gross malfeasance. People like former Sheboygan Mayor Jim Ryan, who was apparently in a constant state of breaking the law, come to mind. He was tossed out office, and rightfully so. But while some are alleging shady business on behalf of the governor, the reason most people want to recall Walker is because they don`t like how he`s governed in the last year and a half.

Lakefront Marathon

Fearing they`ve lost pace in a national running boom, organizers of the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon are proposing to add a half marathon to the event and create a paid position for the race director. Both ideas are expected to hit a wall of resistance within the Badgerland Striders.

Blue Jacket Bar

This summer, Walker`s Point will put on a new jacket; one initially intended for the East Side. Blue Jacket Bar will open at 135 E. National Ave. in July, according to Laura van Heijningen, who will own the place with her husband, Tom. The van Heijningens were initially eying a location on Murray Avenue on the East Side, before settling on the space that, until last Friday, housed the Triangle Bar.
