Earlier this evening, Mike Brenner, the owner of Hotcakes Gallery
who said he would close his gallery and move from Milwaukee if the
"Bronze Fonz" statue is erected Downtown, sent out an e-mail saying he
was interested in obtaining quotes to have a statue made of himself.
"I have been approached by a few local businesses that are interested in sponsoring a 'Bronze Brenner' statue. Does anybody have contact info for a foundry, so I can get quotes?" reads his e-mail that was sent to
members of the Milwaukee Artist Resource Network (MARN) Yahoo group.

It is my opinion that the "Fonzie" Henry Winkler statue is a positive addition to Milwaukee. It is privately funded, and would be a great place to take tourist pictures. I have friends from Italy and Germany, Japan and all across the U.S. and they always ask to be taken to Milwaukee to sight see and go out to eat. They also comment on the TV show Happy Days and want to connect in some way with the show they all felt a part of while growing up. I had no idea so many people knew about this old TV favorite, they always connect it positively with Wisconsin. I know without a doubt it will bring in tons of tourist dollars, and happiness to share with others around the world. Positive word of mouth is a wonderful thing. For the Business owners that want to leave if the statue is approved, I say see ya later, won't miss you a bit, who needs your negativity. I would never be so bold, or self centered as to suggest erecting a statue of myself instead. I don't think a statue with 50,000 lbs. of bronze just for the inflated head would be very attractive. How Artsy would that be for Milwaukee. How about a nice Bronze Donkey in front of your business, and leave the positive statue for the positive happy people of the world enjoy. Hey everybody, stop sitting on your hands, complain about the high gas prices and demand that there is a cap on how much they can drill us, it is killing us, who can afford to drive anywhere but to and from work anymore?? High gas prices increase the prices of everything, everything is moved by truck, train, air, the cost gets added to everything you buy!!!!! Land prices dropped, all tourist business helps every other local business, weekend traffic on highways is down to a trickle. Can you say bleed us dry, thanks big Oil, how many Billions have you made in profits this quarter?????? Stop the madness, Get OUT AND VOTE people sorry so long, we must change or whither away................

this is why all of our young artistic people are leaving milwaukee for places like Portland, OR, and Austin, TX. god-awful descisions about how to best represent ourselves are keeping our city from becoming a nationally recognized contributer to the arts. Milwaukee was affraid of how it would look to be represented by the blue shirt, well how can we be taken serious by backing the fonz?.. i miss the whale wall.

While I'm not crazy about an investment being made into a Fonzie statue, Mike Brenner has gotten way too much mileage out of this. Time to move on. I know I'll be visiting other galleries.

Hey why not, it's as arbitrary as a Henry Winkler statue.
