"Color Purple," "Happy Days" top new Broadway series

The Marcus Center for the Performing Arts announced its new Broadway Across America -- Milwaukee series for 2008-'09.

It includes the Wisconsin premiere of "Oprah Winfrey Presents The Color Purple," "Happy Days -- A New Musical," set in Milwaukee and based on the beloved television series, "A Bronx Tale" starring Oscar-nominated Chazz Palminteri, the 30th anniversary production of "A Chorus Line" and the Milwaukee return of "The Phantom of the Opera."

"Oprah Winfrey's The Color Purple" opens the new series Aug. 12-17.

"Audiences are in for a real treat this season," says Tom Gergerich, Executive Vice President of the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. "We are thrilled to bring Milwaukee one of Broadway's most spectacular productions, as well as brand new shows and Wisconsin premieres."

Five-show subscription packages go on sale to Broadway Across America -- Milwaukee season ticket holders and the general public on Sunday, March 30, 2008. Prices range from $126 to $380 depending upon performance time and seating preference.
