It was just last year that the WMSE / Bella's Fat Cat Slamburger was created, but it has since become legend.
The sirloin (or veggie) burger, topped with cheese, lettuce, pickles, red onion, tomato and a top-secret slam sauce was created for the 2007 WMSE Food Slam, an annual fundraiser that brings more than 20 areas restaurants to the Eisner American Museum of Advertising and Design for a night of noshing and fun.
This year, the culinary powers that be could not resist resurrecting its glory for the month of September, leading up to the Food Slam on Friday, Oct. 3. The burger is available at both Bella's Fat Cat locations, on the East Side at 2974 N. Oakland Ave. and in Bay View at 2737 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.
The newcomer this year is the Catfish Creole from Maxie's Southern Comfort, 6732 W. Fairview Ave. The sandwich is blackened catfish with zesty tomato sauce, red beans and rice and a vegetable.
A portion of the sales of both the Slamburger and Catfish Creole will benefit WMSE. Tickets to the Food Slam are $30 ($25 in advance at wmse.org).
