Next time you stop at Oakland Gyros to top off an evening, feel free to engage fellow patrons in a debate about the pronunciation of the featured sandwich.

In the Midwest and West, it is usually pronounced "YEE-roh." On the East Coast, many say "JAI-ROH." Don't ask the staff. They are busy serving the customers, many of whom were overserved at their previous stop.
