The Westown Association celebrated Friday after its victory over the East Town Association during a noon hour "Fish, Cheese and Brat Throwdown" that helped welcome Wisconsin's first Kincaid's Restaurant to Milwaukee's Riverwalk.
We first told you about Kincaid's arrival in Milwaukee last June, and I'm proud to have participated in the restaurant's opening ceremony using my highly tuned skills to catch and throw 10-pound Atlantic salmon, stringed brats from Usinger's Famous Sausage and wheels of cheese donated by the Wisconsin Cheese Mart.
Kincaid's is based in Seattle, where fish tossing is a popular activity at local fish markets, so they use these contests to as public relations gimmicks to build buzz. But, there was more than buzz on the line on Friday. There was $5,000 in cash!
I'm here today to tell you that I have the fish scales and cuts to prove that my team, Westown, prevailed. Flanked by our ringer, Bango, we caught, threw and squirmed our way through the cold, slime and frenzied crowed. Hats off to teammates Stacie Callies, Ashley Schimtt, Corny Holt, Steve Costello, Mike Kenney, Erica Anderson, Mike Kelber, Joan Farrell and aforementioned Bango!
We rocked and secured a $3,000 donation for neighborhood improvements in Westown, East Town -- by way -- took home $2,000 in a losing effort. Sorry, Kate Borders and company!
Watch for a full review of the new Kincaid's, 1110 N. Old World 3rd St., (the old Third Street Pier space) soon.
