Downtown Milwaukee is getting a bagel shop. Bruegger's Bagel Bakery will open at 753 N. Water St. at Mason Street. There's no word on the opening date yet.
The building -- owned by Dermond Associates, LLC -- was once the home of a clothing store, and more recently offices and the Hunter Group.
There are a few bagel shops Downtown (Einstein's in East Town, Milwaukee Bagel Company on Wisconsin Avenue and several bakeries), but Bruegger's will be the first national franchise shop in central Downtown.
Bruegger's menu features boiled and baked bagels, salads, whole wheat wraps, stone hearth breads, soups, specialty and deli made sandwiches, desserts, coffee from Green Mountain Coffee Roasters and original cream cheese in an assortment of flavors.
Founded in 1983, Bruegger's is headquartered in Burlington, Vt. There are seven locations in Wisconsin, including Brookfield, Wauwatosa and Whitefish Bay.
