Traffic on the little stretch of North Water Street that connects the beginning of Brady Street to Humboldt has been backed up with traffic from construction for months now, but we've just received a sign that it might let up soon.
It's a literal sign: Brocach Irish Pub and Restaurant has hoisted its name above its new Milwaukee location at 1850 N. Water St. Although we still don't have an official open date for the bar that's been in the works since summer, this is still a good sign of progress.
The only other Brocach is located in downtown Madison at 7 W. Main St.
The menu is obviously very Irish in theme, with the traditional offers of potato leek soup, corned beef sandwiches, Scotch eggs, Shepherd's Pie (vegetarian style, too) and, of course, Guinness Irish strew. But there are plenty of less-Irish options as well, such as grilled Alaskan salmon, Caesar salad, curry chips and a hummus-filled veggie wrap.
As for the drinks? Well, take a guess. This quote from the Web site pretty much sums it up: "Great imported beer, including the best pint of Guinness west of Galway and unusual Irish and Scotch whiskeys."
