The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2008. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.

October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, special features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food. Bon appetit!

Milwaukee is one of the great, underrated restaurant cities in the Midwest, but there is nothing like a home-cooked meal.

As passionate as they are about dining out, OnMilwaukee.com readers love to prepare food at home and they have a number of great markets at which to shop. The contest for "Best Market" could not have been much closer, but Milwaukee Public Market prevailed in a tight race over Sendik's.

The Public Market features 20 specialty food vendors, with products ranging from bread and baked goods, wine and spirits, candy, cheese, coffee, fresh produce, meat, poultry and seafood.

Sendik's, which has been in business for more than eight decades, provides a wonderful shopping experience at stores in Elm Grove, Franklin, Germantown, Grafton Greenfield, Mequon, Wauwatosa and Whitefish Bay, along with three locations operated by another branch of the family, in Bayside, Elmbrook (124th Street and North Avenue) and on Downer Avenue.
