Alterra Coffee Roasters hosts the 2008 Great Lakes Regional Barista Competition (GLRBC) at the P.H. Dye Building, 320 E. Buffalo St., March 14-16.
The competition is free and open to the public. Spectators are welcome to try complimentary coffee and espresso drinks prepared by some of the best baristas from Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio. Rishi Tea, Omanhene Chocolate and Alterra Baking Company will also provide samples.
The GLRBC is one of 10 annual regional barista competitions held nationwide. The event is designed to encourage and recognize professional achievement in the art of espresso beverage preparation and service. Professionals from across the Great Lakes region compete for a regional title, guaranteeing them a spot in the U.S. Barista Championship in May at the 20th annual Specialty Coffee Association of America Conference & Exhibition in Minneapolis.
Competition schedule:
Friday, March 14, 10:30 a.m. -4:30 p.m.
Saturday, March 15, 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Sunday, March 16, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Sunday Awards Ceremony, 1:30 p.m.
