My wife and I enjoyed a beautiful Sunday afternoon in our neighborhood this past weekend. We perched on the Riverwalk landing directly across from Rock Bottom Brewery at the end of Mason Street just sitting, talking and reading.
Suddenly a couple came toward us, the woman running ahead of her boyfriend, we presumed. She had a "Boston" T-shirt on, and shouted "wow, this is just like a little Venice." We smiled, proud of our Milwaukeeism, if you will, and asked her how she was doing. She said, "great and I love this city! It's really cool. We're from Boston (pointing to her T-shirt) and need a good Chinese restaurant to hit." She mentioned that they had just walked from the "historic district" (Third/Fifth Ward) and wanted to explore another area. We steered her to Brady Street (they had a car at the hotel) and told her to hit Emperor of China (the birthplace of OnMilwaukee.com, by the way). She thanked us and they went on their way.
It was a nice reminder of how great our Downtown is. Two first-time visitors were "amazed" at Milwaukee and I must say that it made us proud. To this friendly Boston couple we say thank you and "On Milwaukee!"
