Summerfest announced Thursday that its attendance was up by 4 percent this year over last year's festival and that revenues were up 12 percent, exceeded expectations by 3 percent.

Attendance reached 901,841 this year as compared to 867,754 in 2004, according to Milwaukee World, Festival, Inc., the non-profit organization that plans, promotes and produces Summerfest.

"We are very pleased with our results," said Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. President and CEO Don Smiley. "After observing Summerfest in '04 and '05, I believe an overall attendance figure of 850,000-925,000 works well for the convenience and comfort of our patrons and will help ensure the economic metrics required to produce the event for years to come for our community."

Unlike previous years, Summerfest did not release daily attendance figures during the 2005 festival.

I enjoyed taking my 7 year old son and 5 year old daughter and the music was not "gangsta rap" offensive to them. If it takes high price admission and pop culture musicians to keep this an annual enjoyable experience - I'm all for it. A few more "Children's Fest" options would be appreciated.

Ria said: That's total crap--I was there one day and know many people who go numerous days and we all noticed a thinner crowd overall..FAR FEWER people attended if crowd size has anything to do with it. There weren't even lines to the bathrooms or food or lines to leave when it was over...I think they just don't want to admit they were wrong in bringing "older bands" to attract an "older crowd". They're losing their future by avoiding the bands that appeal to younger people!

Tara said: Huh? I was responding to someone elses post. The prices being raised slightly has no effect on whether or not I want to go to SF, or spend money there.
