The Christopher Reeve Foundation has awarded a Quality of Life grant to the Milwaukee Community Sailing Center. The grant is in recognition of the MCSC's efforts to provide sailing programs for the disabled.
The MCSC has taken precautions to make their sailboats handicap accessible, including adding a floating dock and hydraulic lifts for easier wheelchair access.
The Quality of Life grants were started by Reeve's widow Dana in 1999 to improve services for those living with paralysis. Since its inception, over $8 million has been awarded to various organizations.
"The continuing growth of the Quality of Life grants program is a testament to the strong legacy left by Dana Reeve," said Kathy Lewis, president and CEO of the CRF. "Her spirit continues to inspire us as we work to make a real difference in the daily lives of those living with paralysis."
