The owners of Fanatics Sports Central, the sports bar at 185 N. Jefferson St. in the Historic Third Ward, will open Hilo, a martini bar and restaurant tomorrow (Tuesday) at a space just next to Fanatics. OnMilwaukee.com's Julie Lawrence first wrote about Hilo in January.
Hilo will feature outdoor seating, lunch and of course martinis. As for the menu, here's what the new spot's Web site says: "Hilo's food is always fresh and includes organic offerings. Produce, like cherry tomatoes, are imported from Italy so that the best flavor is available all year long. The menu offers starters, entrees and desserts. The unique menu can satisfy a simple palate with offerings like Black Angus ribeye while simultaneously offering creative dishes to more adventurous diners. One such dish, the grilled pork porterhouse, is served with a carrot and potato mash with crispy bacon, pearl onions, Granny Smith apples and cider sauce."
Also new in the Ward, Yan, a hair salon at 419 E. Menomonee St. It's owned by Tracy Grundy. And, balloons will replace baskets at the former Baskets on Broadway space as The Milwaukee Balloon Company will open in May.
Finally, coming very soon to the former Riverwalk Bistro space, is Rustico, a pizzeria from the Zarletti family. Doug Hissom wrote about this in March.
