Sanford and Coquette Cafe owner Sandy D'Amato has announced plans to open a new bakery, called Harlequin, in the lobby of the Landmark Building, 316 N. Milwaukee St., which also houses Coquette.
According to the restaurant's own "Eater's Digest" newsletter, the "sweet and savory bakeshop ... will hopefully give our guests a breakfast, lunch, quick snack or sweet, or specialty coffee and tea to bring them a little closer to our warm memories of Paris."
Everything will be baked from scratch, including the bread. "It has always been Sandy's dream to develop a signature bread for Sanford ... it is finally a possibility," the newsletter reports.
Although there is no specific opening date, D'Amato plans to have the bakery built out and up and running sometime in 2005.
