What is a blog? For us it is a short blurb that we write when the mood strikes us. It can be first person, funny or informative. In short, a blog is whatever we want it to be. Published Feb. 26, 2007 at 7:13 a.m.

In conjunction with its newest art exhibit "Francis Bacon: Paintings from the 1950s," the Milwaukee Art Museum presents "A Haunting Inspiration: Francis Bacon in Film."

As part of its film series, MAM will show short films that were chosen because each embodied something found in Bacon's work.

From a collaboration between direction Luis Bunuel and artist Salvador Dali comes "Un Chien Andalou" (1929). It's a dreamy 17-minute-long film that has images that are up for interpretation. It's surrealism in moving form, but also a bit graphic.

Director David Lynch, known for films like "Mulholland Drive" and "Blue Velvet," created "The Grandmother" (1970). The 34-minute film shows a young boy wanting to escape his abusive parents. He plants seeds and grows a grandmother to save him.

The final film is the animated "Street of Crocodiles" done by the Quay Brothers. The 20-minute film shows a puppet being released by a man into a hall of rooms. As the puppet explores the rooms, he encounters other dolls that show him his new world.

"A Haunting Inspiration: Francis Bacon in Film" takes place March 1 at 6:15 p.m. in the Lubar Auditorium. Tickets are $7 for the general public and $5 for members, seniors and studios.
