First cookies, now sundaes. Bon Ton Bakery in Jefferson is selling cookies for Fonzie, and beginning this weekend Culver's will sell sundaes to help raise funds for the man who famously jumped the shark.
It has been 20 years since the final episode of "Happy Days" aired, but Henry Winkler, the actor who played "The Fonz," remains cool and as we've reported his likeness will soon be bronzed and forever immortalized in Downtown Milwaukee.
Winkler also holds a Master's degree from Yale University and has scores of acting, producing and directing credentials, yet he has struggled with dyslexia his entire life. His three children also have learning challenges. Winkler also has authored a series of dyslexic themed books in which the main character Hank Zipzer is dyslexic
So, a new partnership between Visit Milwaukee and Milwaukee-area Culver's restaurants -- that OnMilwaukee.com has learned will be announced tomorrow (Winkler will be in town as a keynote speaker for the 87th State Education Convention) -- will provide up to $10,000 for the Spheres of Proud Achievement in Reading for Kids (SPARK) program. SPARK is an early literacy program providing individualized tutoring to kids in grades kindergarten through three. It's a partnership between the Boys & Girls Clubs of Milwaukee, UW-Milwaukee and the United Way.
The Fonz character was a big fan of hot fudge sundaes on the show; therefore, Culver's will promote its Hot Fudge Turtle Sundae and donate $1 from each sundae sold the statue fund and SPARK.
So, buy a sundae and help not only bronze our beloved Fonz, but kids to read.
