During OnMilwaukee.com Bar Month in February, Molly Snyder Edler interviewed Wolski's Tavern co-owner Dennis Bondar about his bar's history in Milwaukee. She learned that Bondar's great-grandfather has purchased the building in 1907, moved it to 1836 N. Pulaski St. from its original Brady Street locale and opened for business in 1908.
You don't have to be a mathlete to deduce that 2008 marks the 100th anniversary of this beloved Milwaukee watering hole, and Bondar and his brothers have big party plans for this Sunday, Sept. 21.
The centennial celebration kicks off at 2 p.m. at Lakefront Brewery, 1872 N. Commerce St. There's a $5 fee at the door, and that gets you a pint of Wolski's Centennial Pilnser and a four-hour set (3-7 p.m.) with The Squeezettes, an accordion, mandolin, tuba and vocals combo featuring former members of The Riverwest Accordion Club.
The band's even penned a special ditty for the special day: the "I Closed Wolski's Polka."
Cheers!
