A new sports bar is opening on the north end of Downtown at 600 E. Ogden Ave., most recently home to Vivo Urban Grill and, before that, John Ernest Café. Vivo Urban Grill closed in 2006 and owner Al Bada has since opened Mi-Key's at the former Monsoon and Zyng space at 811 N. Jefferson St.
A craigslist posting says the place will be "a high end sports bar" and a "very nice establishment (with) tons of plasma TVs ... casual atmosphere." The ad also claims it will have the "highest paid positions in the area!"
Located between Chipotle and the Panera Bread Company, the space (rumored to be designed by Flux Design) has a sign on it that features a hangman game and the words "What goes around, comes around."
The hangman spaces are as follows: _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ .
Building owner Charles Gabaldon of Gabaldon Properties referred an inquiry to the owners and "forwarded (my) name/number to
the party you'd like to speak to and out of respect to them and their
operation, I'm going to leave it up to them." So the name and owners of the new venture are still a mystery. An e-mail inquiry to the craigslist posting yielded this response from a Jon Kopp: "The name of the place is not being given out at this time. The silent owners' names also are not being given out." Kopp later revealed that he is the managing partner for the venture. There are two silent investors.
Care to take a guess on the name? Use the talk back feature. I'll guess it starts with"The."
The craigslist ad cites an October 2007 opening. Stay tuned to OnMilwaukee.com for more details.
