This summer, Green Bay mainstay Hinterland Brewery will open its doors near the shores of the Milwaukee River in the Third Ward at 222 E. Erie St., #100.
The restaurant and lounge will be located in a redeveloped five-story Cream City brick building that currently houses Juju, the Home Market, Vita Fitness & Physical Therapy, and other commercial and retail space.
In Green Bay, Hinterland, calls itself "the hub of contemporary American cuisine." That might not be too difficult for Green Bay. Nonetheless, the Brewery/Restaurant/Lounge has received rave reviews for its food, its multicultural approach to cooking (it partners with fisherman and fish mongers in Honolulu, Seattle and Portland) and, of course, its beer.
"Basically it will be the same format, " said owner Bill Tressler. But, Hinterland won't brew its beer at the new Milwaukee location. "We'll be using our excess capacity (brewed in Green Bay)."
Hinterland received its liquor license recently and has begun build out that should take "3 to 3 1/2 months." Tressler hopes to open "around the first of August."
The upscale, yet casual restaurant should be a welcome addition to the neighborhood. "We've been following the development in the area for quite some time. It's the perfect setting for Hinterland," said Tressler.
Proud of their position and reputation in Green Bay, the Hinterland owner said "Green Bay has been a good market for us, but we are very excited to bring the concept to a larger market."
The Third Ward should be excited, too. The development in and around the Water Street and Milwaukee River corner reflects the continued boom of the Third and Fifth Wards. "It should be a lot of fun," concluded Tressler.
