Forbes.com is out with yet another list.
This one ranks "America's Hard Drinking Cities." Milwaukee came in second. Austin, Texas tops Brew City for the No.1 ranking.
Here's what Forbes had to say about our city, "Coming in second on thelist is Milwaukee. This city, known as 'the nation's watering hole,'has a long reputation as a city built on beer. It was once the nation'stop beer-producing city, home to four of the world's largest breweries:Schlitz, Pabst, Miller and Blatz. Legendary sitcom characters Laverneand Shirley fixed bottle caps on one of the city's assembly lines. Eventhe town's baseball team--the Brewers--reflects its boozy past."
Their data on Milwaukee drinking:
-Residents who had at least one drink in the last 30 days: 70.6 percent
-Men who had more than two drinks per day, or women one drink: 5.3 percent
-Residents who had five or more drinks on one occasion: 21.4 percent
Rounding out the top five hardest-drinking cities are San Francisco; Providence and Chicago.
Forbes concludes its survey by saying, "Of course, just because acity ranks high on the list doesn't make it a den of debauchery. Atop-drinking town could be populated by health-conscious adults who sipa glass of wine a day in order to keep their hearts healthy. And justdowning a few cold ones doesn't make a person irresponsible."
